Honda Navi vs Grom: Why Didn't The Grom Come To India?
Many motorcycle enthusiasts have welcomed the Honda Navi with widespread hands. One key reason is that is looks similar to the Honda Grom, a motorcycle that is sold in international markets. Let's take a look at the difference between the two models and the reason why it has not made it to the Indian shores.

Design
The Honda Navi features a small fuel tank and very minimalistic body work. It has a wide seat to comfortably occupy two adults. The Navi is designed based on the other models sold in India by Honda. For example, the tail section is off the Stunner. The Navi and the Grom look quite similar in design.
The Honda Grom is basically the mini bike sold in many international markets like Southeast Asia, Europe, and United States. It is also a favourite in certain places since it is small and fun to ride. The major difference between the two is the engine.
Engine Specification
The Honda Navi's engine is the same as the Honda Activa. It is powered by a 109cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 7.8bhp and 8.9Nm of torque. The engine is mounted at the rear, and is mated to a CVT gearbox, with no foot controls. Both brakes are operated with hand levers like a traditional scooter.
The Honda Grom features a 124.9cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel injected engine that produces 9.8bhp and 10.9Nm of torque. Unlike the Navi, the Grom's engine is paired to a 4-speed manual gearbox, like a traditional motorcycle.
Features
The Navi is quite basic. It has no storage space (storage box available as extra accessory), nor an instrument cluster with trip meter, or digital display. What the Navi has is telescopic front forks, single shock at the rear, drum brakes, and a small under seat storage.
The Honda Grom has inverted front forks, monoshock at the rear, 12-inch wheels with disc brakes on both, a digital speedometer console, and ergonomics like a full fledged motorcycle, only in a smaller proportion.
Conclusion
The Honda Grom seems to be better than the Honda Navi in every aspect. It is a proper motorcycle, has better, upmarket features, and a more powerful engine. Does that make it a winner? No. Think about the ease of riding. Scooters sell well in India because they are easy to ride in our traffic conditions. The Navi follows the same concept.
The lack of storage is taken care of a simple backpack, braking is fine on the Navi, it is easy to ride in traffic, and most of all, the Navi is priced at only Rs. 39,500/- ex-showroom (Delhi). If the Grom has to enter India, it will be priced higher than for it is sold abroad because of our import duties. This will put the Grom directly in the line of 150cc motorcycles in India, which will make the product too expensive to sell for Honda.
