Ford EcoSport Prices Drop Up To Rs 57,000 & Ford EcoSport Thunder Launched At Rs 10.18 Lakh

Ford has launched the EcoSport Thunder variant in India and has reworked the number of variants in its line-up and the best bit is that prices of all variants have been reduced. We had recently reported about the shuffle in the variants line-up and now, it has happened.

The Ford EcoSport now gets a new variant called the 'Thunder' and this variant costs exactly as much as the Titanium+ variant does, but is designed to cater to a younger audience thanks to its styling.

As for the reduction in prices, Ford claims that a higher level of localisation has reduced production costs and the benefit is being passed on to buyers. Reduction in prices vary from as low as Rs 8,000 on the Petrol MT Trend variant to Rs 57,000 on the top-spec Diesel MT S variant.

The Ford EcoSport Thunder has been launched at a price of Rs 10.18 lakh for the Petrol MT model and Rs 10.68 lakh for the Diesel MT model (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Thunder variant is essentially a replacement for the now discontinued Signature variant.

Ford had launched the Signature variant in May 2018 to appeal to a younger audience who wanted a more stylish vehicle. Now, the Thunder variant technically replaces it. There are a few visual factors that help differentiate the Ford EcoSport Thunder from the other EcoSport variants.

The basic design of the SUV remains the same as other variants, but the EcoSport Thunder features a lot of blacked-out elements. Up front are gloss black bezels for the fog lamps, the same gloss black can be seen on the grille and other elements of the front bumper including the faux skid plate.

The other major differentiating factor is the dual-tone bonnet with a part of the bonnet decked in gloss black. At the sides, one eyes are immediately drawn to the new alloy wheels that are also finished in black but with a satin matte finish. There are black-coloured decals on the doors as well.

There are quite a few differences inside the new Ford EcoSport Thunder. The biggest difference one can see up front is the dual tone interior. Ford seems to have used an excess of Brown (Cognac) trim inside the SUV.

One can find the Brown detailing on the seats, door panels, passenger grab handles, centre armrest and even on the surrounds for the centre console. A 9.0-inch FlyAudio infotainment system takes centre-place on the dashboard.

It does come with several connectivity options but does not come loaded with Ford's SYNC3 connectivity suite and that also means that there is no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. However, it does come with in-built navigation, voice commands, steering-mounted controls, etc.

The Ford EcoSport Thunder also comes loaded with features like electric sunroof, airbags, ABS with EBD, etc. Powering the petrol variant of the Ford EcoSport Thunder is the 1.5-litre three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine with a maximum power output of 121bhp and a peak torque output of 150Nm.

The diesel variant on the other hand is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with a maximum power output of 99bhp and a peak torque output of 205Nm.

Thoughts On Ford Reducing Prices Of The EcoSport & Launching The Thunder Variant

Ford claims that the reduction in prices was due to higher levels of localisation, but isn't it an uncanny coincidence that this has happened just a few days after the Hyundai Venue was launched at a staggering price point? As for the EcoSport Thunder, well it has done done up tastefull on the outside, but the use of brown on the inside is an overkill. What do you think about it?
